Success Story # 1
On this particular project we were employed to co-ordinate the design and then install all utilities. The site consists of a mix of 34 highly prestigious apartments and houses in the centre of the town of Southwold, and due to it's nature, day to day operating restrictions were imposed upon us, as were numerous design changes that took place during the course of the works. These, together with very tight target dates for connections, meant that careful planning and daily liaison with our Customers Site Manager was essential.
Our Supervisor, Stuart Nielsen, says:
"From the outset the site has been very challenging. Their was a heavy involvement from the Architect which resulted in many minor revisions to the drawings and a redesign of the way that the gas enters the buildings. This required input from us to ensure these changes were feasible and met with current legislation.
When we commenced on site the Customer was well advanced with their build so it was important to work in with them at all stages of the work. In particular there were areas where specific days for access had to be planned and agreed so as not to impact upon the production of other trades.
Because of the design of the site with narrow roads and features such as trees and planters, the route for all mains pipe was very specific and had to be followed very precisely. Our installation teams worked very closely with our Customers Site Engineer to ensure that there were no problems in this aspect."
Our Customer, Roger Thompson of Hopkins Homes said:
"Just a note to say well done to the lads from PDI for the helpful and efficient way they managed to get the water and gas mains laid and completed. This was not easy on a very tight site. Likewise to Stuart (PDI Supervisor) for his part in organising."
Success Story # 2
Our Customer appointed PDI to co-ordinate the design and then install all utilities on this project consisting of a new YMCA building. Again this site was of a challenging nature due to both it's city centre location and the deadlines imposed for completion of the works as a whole.
Our Supervisor, Paul Buxton, says:
"This relatively small brown-field, commercial, city centre development was always going to pose a challenge regarding site congestion and access. We overcame these issues with very close liaison and forward planning with the developer before carrying out our works, within timescales agreed, to fit in with the site program of works and causing the absolute minimum of inconvenience and disruption to other trades.
The above proved even more challenging in respect of having to obtain a road closure and opening notice, along with a traffic management plan for a busy city centre, traffic sensitive road in order to commission the site with gas onto the existing National Grid network. Further liaison with the Council was also required before EDF Energy could undertake their proposed works, which involved excavation in adjacent land belonging to the city's bus station. With considerable differences in the ground levels between the site and adjacent land, engineering difficulties had to be overcome when laying mains supplies.
In all, the challenges were met and dealt with accordingly to correspond with the developer's tight programme, with all deadlines being achieved to the satisfaction of the client."
Our Customer, Trevor Haystead of Lovell Partnerships said:
"We write to thank you for the effort you and your work force committed to ensuring a successful project was handed over to our Client, on programme and to a very high quality. Their feedback has been extremely positive and helps to ensure that we remain a preferred developer for future projects."
